-Chevy Chase Lake Celebrates the Well-Established Character of Neighborhood While Creating an Elevated Standard for the Future-
Chevy Chase, MD—December 13, 2018—As the town of Chevy Chase celebrates their centennial anniversary this year, The Bozzuto Group and The Chevy Chase Land Company today marked the beginning of a new era of development during a ceremonial groundbreaking for Chevy Chase Lake—a vibrant, mixed-use, transit-oriented community located at 8507 Connecticut Avenue.
The shared vision of Bozzuto and Chevy Chase Land, both generationally-owned local companies, focuses on long-term design and development decisions that serve the Chevy Chase neighborhood and community at large. Informed by input gained at public meetings, the Chevy Chase Lake Sector Plan, approved by the Montgomery County Council in 2013, is based on a framework that will preserve the well-established community character, enhance quality of life and connectivity, and create new choices and opportunities for local shopping, housing, public spaces, and transit.
The first phase of the project will include two buildings oriented around a neighborhood square. The buildings are both 6-stories and will include 280 rental and 65 condo units. Anchored by a yet-to-be-named grocery store, the community will be further supported with 100,000 square feet of vibrant and neighborhood serving retail and restaurants. The MTA’s Purple Line, which is currently under construction, will place a light rail transit station on site, connecting the property to both Bethesda and Silver Spring.
“The evolution of this site is something we are extremely proud to be a part of, especially given that our company has in some way guided the direction of each iteration, whether it be the site of the Rock Creek Railway in 1893, Chevy Chase Lake amusement park in the early 1900s and now, this modern haven for future generations,” says Tom Regnell, CEO of The Chevy Chase Land Company. “As we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on preserving the character and charm of Chevy Chase while continuing to create new connections for this very place, the neighborhood and region.”
“Chevy Chase Lake is a significant project due to both the economic impact and opportunities for deeper community connections. We are honored to have been selected as partner by The Chevy Chase Land Company,” says Toby Bozzuto, President and CEO of Bozzuto. “At Bozzuto, we are relentlessly driven by a desire to create sanctuary for those that we serve – places that inspire and evoke a sense of belonging. Chevy Chase Lake will become a vibrant, communal gathering space for the neighborhood, Montgomery County and the Greater Washington area.”
The Chevy Chase Land Company, who have owned the property for 125 years, and The Bozzuto Group have a combined experience of more than 150 years, with a record of developing award-winning communities in the D.C. Metro area, including Cathedral Commons and Monroe Street Market.
