For small town living at its best, look no further than the charming and historic town of North East, located at the head of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Even though you’re only 50 miles from both Philadelphia and Baltimore, it will feel like you’re worlds away. First explored by Captain John Smith in 1608, the area wasn't settled until 1700, and history is everywhere. Wander through the graveyard surrounding St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church, and you’ll spot graves of Susquehannock Indians dating back to the 1600's. Stroll down Main Street, and you’ll pass numerous antiques shops and boutiques housed in old buildings. Pop into locally-owned restaurants where it seems like everyone knows your name. During your downtime, take advantage of easy access to swimming, boating, fishing and crabbing in town and at nearby Elk Neck State Park. Once you settle into life here, you won’t want to live anywhere else.
