Aberdeen, a small, quiet town almost equidistant between Baltimore and Wilmington, Delaware, is best known as the home of two things: Baseball great Cal Ripken, Jr. and the U.S. Army’s Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG). Established by Edmund Law Rogers around 1800 and named for Aberdeen, Scotland, it was a quiet community until APG began operations in 1918. Despite the area’s growth, it retains a small town feel, especially because Aberdeen is home to many military families who love to take advantage of everything the area has to offer: Minor league baseball at Ripken Stadium, outdoor activities at Susquehanna State Park, and close proximity to Baltimore, not to mention Delaware and Maryland beaches. Because the town is bisected by both I-95 and Route 40, traveling locally or regionally to take advantage of everything the East Coast has to offer is easy. At the end of the day, you’ll look forward to coming home to your relaxing enclave in Aberdeen.
